How Travel Nurse Housing Works

How Travel Nurse Housing Works

Housing Options That Suit Your Lifestyle

Depending on your contract and assignment location, housing may be arranged in a few different ways:

  • Pre-arranged housing near the hospital — often staff residences, dorm-style units, or shared housing. Remember: not every city is like the one at home. Ideally, housing may be close-by, but due to limited housing units, some may be further away.

  • Furnished short-term rentals — apartments or basement suites quipped with the essentials to make you feel at home.

  • Flexible housing stipends (per clients approval) — choose your own place (Airbnb, rental, or hotel) and get reimbursed or supported with a stipend.

No matter where you’re placed, we partner with our clients across Canada to make sure your accommodations are clean, safe, and comfortable. Your comfort and safety matter most.

Please note: If you require certain amenities, (i.e. washer and dryer; dishwasher, etc), or, family/pet friendly accommodations, please communicate this with your recruiter ahead of time to ensure your contract is appropriate.

Bringing a Pet or Partner? Let Us Know Early

Life doesn’t pause when you take a contract — and we want your home away from home to reflect that.

If you’re traveling with a partner, child, or pet, let your recruiter know upfront. Some housing may have limitations, but there are always solutions. We can:

  • Find pet-friendly housing so your furry friend can join you.

  • Explore larger units or family-friendly accommodations if you’re bringing a partner or child.

  • Locate housing near schools, grocery stores, or parks to make life outside of work easier.

  • We advocate for your needs, so your living situation works with your lifestyle — not against it.

What Affects Housing Availability?

Several factors influence what type of housing is offered or available:

  • Location — Rural or Northern assignments often use staff residences or employer-provided housing, while cities may offer more rental variety.

  • Specialty & Contract Type — Some placements (especially in remote areas) include free housing as part of the agreement.

  • Season — Summer (tourist season) and winter holidays can mean limited rental availability. Tip: plan ahead — at least 4-6 months if possible.

  • Budget — Some contracts provide a housing allowance or stipend, while others directly arrange housing.
